Stainless steel sheet is highly versatile and used in a wide range of applications. It is primarily selected for its resistance to corrosion, longevity and form ability. Stainless steel plate and sheet differ in durability and thickness. Stainless steel sheets are thinner, usually 6mm or less, and used for lightweight residential and household applications. Stainless steel plates provide more tensile strength and are used in heavy-duty applications.
Uses of stainless steel sheet include structural and construction applications, pressure vessels, offshore and marine equipment, telecommunication towers, military applications and general fabrication.
Two of the most common grades of stainless steel are 304 and 316. 304 and 304L are the most popular grades for stainless steel sheets as they are cheaper, highly versatile, easily roll-formed or shaped and provide excellent corrosion resistance and weldability, while also maintaining their durability. For marine and coastal environments, grades 316 and 316L are often favoured due to their superior corrosion resistance and are particularly effective in acidic conditions.
Grades | Width | Length | Thickness |
---|---|---|---|
304/304L | Up to 2000mm | Up to 6000mm | From 0.4mm |
316/316L | Up to 2000mm | Up to 6000mm | From 0.4mm |
Other stainless steel sheet grades and sizes are available upon request. You can request to cut your stainless steel sheets down to size.
Finish | Description |
---|---|
No. 1 | Rough, dull, uneven appearance. Most suitable for industrial applications. |
2B | Dull grey with slight reflective finish. Most commonly used cold rolled mill finish. |
4B | Uniform direction brushed look, not highly reflective. An ideal general purpose finish. |
Bright Annealed (BA) | Cold rolled, annealed in a controlled atmosphere to retain a highly reflective and mirror-like finish. |
Hairline (HL) | Well-defined directional finish with long and fine lines. |
No. 8 (Mirror) | Most reflective surface available. Used for cosmetic applications such as mirrors and reflectors. |
Other stainless steel sheet finishes are available if required and can be supplied with a protective film.
