Hastelloy C22 Alloy – C-22 Round Bar Sheet Plate Tube

Hastelloy C-22 (C22) Super Alloy (UNS N06022) is a highly corrosion-resistant nickel alloy

WHY C-22?

C-22 is used in severely corrosive media with high chloride and temperature applications such as buffer solutions, active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), fabric softeners, cleaning supplies, and fish, soy and chili sauce. C-22 is a great alternative when superaustenitic stainless steels (AL-6XN®, 904L, and 254 SMO®) and duplex stainless steels (2205 and 2507) will not withstand extremely aggressive media. This is because it is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy with better overall resistance to uniform and localized corrosion than any other Ni-Cr-Mo alloy, like Hastelloy C-276, C-4, and alloy 625. This alloy is recognized by the ASME BPE standard, which identifies several specifications in Part MM (Metallic Materials) and by U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
1. GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE
Choosing the right sanitary equipment and materials to avoid corrosion is a best practice for most processing environments.
2. NO MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION
No crevice and pitting corrosion, no product accretion.
3. PRODUCT AVAILABILITY
CSI Stocks over 65,000 feet of tubing and thousands of fittings.
4. AVOID EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT
Super Alloys provide a good return on investment by reducing product loss and maintenance time repairing and replacing corroded parts.

HASTELLOY ADVANTAGES

Every material has a threshold limit, and when superaustenitic and duplex such as AL-6XN, 254SMO, 904L, 2507, and 2205's threshold is reached, nickel-based alloy Hastelloy C-22/Alloy 22 is the best option. Hastelloy C-22 can withstand very aggressive conditions, surpassing the capabilities of AL-6XN and similar alloys.

1. CORROSION RESISTANCE

Hastelloy C-22 has excellent resistance in oxidizing and reducing environments. It consistently shows good results when exposed to strong oxidizers, such as ferric and cupric chlorides, chlorine, organic and inorganic hot contaminated solutions, formic and acetic acids, acetic anhydride, and seawater and brine solutions. PREN The Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN or PRE) is used as a guide for comparing and ranking a material’s corrosion resistance. The PRE Number is calculated from a formula based on chemical composition. In today’s market, there is a wide range of austenitic, superaustenitic, duplex, superduplex, and nickel-based alloys. Besides corrosion resistance, other factors should be taken into consideration, such as commercial availability, appearance, good mechanical properties, and fabrication characteristics.

Fabrication of Hastelloy C-22

Although ductile enough to be formed by cold working, intermediate annealing may be necessary due to work hardening. Forging should be performed between 1750-2050° F followed by rapid cooling. Annealing can be performed at a temperature range between 2020-2150° F followed by a rapid quench. Cooling at an accelerated rate avoids the formation of detrimental phases which form between 1400-1800° F. Welding can be done by gas tungsten-arc, gas metal-arc and shielded metal-arc processes.
